 Several years ago, Reach Partners started a practice that has now become an established tradition. We initiated CCC, which stands for Coffee, Cheese Plates, and Cocktails. We are big believers that good food, good drinks, and good conversations go hand-in-hand. By adopting this strategy, we’ve been intentional about framing our relationship-building in a fun, informal way. But let’s face it, this is also our much-more-inviting take on a CRM tool. This is how we stay connected with our current clients while learning about ways we can partner with new ones. The concept is straight forward. Every week we set aside time to connect with people – in person or on Zoom (distance doesn’t need to be a barrier!). Sometimes that means scheduling a coffee meeting during traditional working hours. Other times it means initiating an after-work gathering over a cheese plate and cocktails.
I also use this model to make the most of my experiences on committees, boards and networking groups. I’ll invite other members to CCC for focused one-on-one conversation. Why? You get to know someone so much better when it’s just two of you in a conversation instead of participating in casual group conversation before or after a meeting. And, we know from experience that committee members who are comfortable with each other tend to do better work together. I make a list of people and reach out until I’ve met with everyone in the group. It can take months, but I’m never in a rush. One group thought it was a great idea, and the concept spread to others who scheduled their own one-on-ones. I guess this makes me a trendsetter! To be clear, we’re not against enjoying other beverages or appetizers (Note: I don’t even LIKE coffee), but CCC gives us a framework. An excuse to gather, if you will. Conversations over coffee, cheese plates, or cocktails give us an opportunity to learn and empathize in a stress-free, safe setting. Relationships develop and deepen. Time spent together builds trust and true partnerships – those values that are important to us at Reach Partners. In our world, a cup of coffee is more than a vessel for caffeine.
