Twenty-five years is long enough to watch almost everything about work change. We've gone from fax machines to Zoom meetings. Project plans moved from binders to cloud-based software. We communicate faster than ever before. But after 25 years, we've noticed there are some things that haven’t changed. Twenty-five years ago, Reach Partners was incorporated. Four years later, Anita took ownership, purchasing it from founder Bev Martinson and beginning the next chapter of its story. One project led to another, and Reach Partners gradually expanded from its roots to serve health and wellness into government, nonprofits, agriculture, community development, and beyond. Rachel first joined Reach in 2007 for what was meant to be a short-term project. Even after moving into another role, she and Anita stayed connected. In 2012, their paths crossed again, and before long they were working side by side. Their spouses finally pointed out, "You two should work together full-time." Rachel became a co-owner in 2015, making the partnership official. A quarter of a century has given us plenty of perspective and taught us about what helps good ideas succeed. Here’s what we’ve observed: People still need clarity.
Clarity is a form of care. We’ve learned how to make roles and responsibilities apparent in a new project. When there are too many cooks in the kitchen, everyone jumps in and no one owns the outcome. Too often, the loudest voice wins, not the strategic one. Unclear roles make projects frustrating and untenable. We create an environment where each team member can move with autonomy and be accountable for their work. We've all been in that meeting where no one knows who's leading, decisions aren't made, and everyone leaves assuming someone else owns the next step. We've learned that an hour spent clarifying roles at the beginning of a project saves weeks of frustration later. Teams still need trust. Projects don't slow down because of process. They slow down when people lose clarity, confidence, or trust. Trust is earned through consistent behavior, clear communication, and doing what you say you’ll do. Character and competence, authenticity, empathy and logic. We’ve been invited into spaces where no one wanted to ask the awkward questions. Those moments aren't about having all the answers. They’re about creating the conditions for people to find a way forward together. We are hired not because an executive director can’t run an event but because she needs to spend her energy leading and cultivating relationships. Her reputation depends on the event going well, and she trusts Reach Partners to protect her vision and carry the responsibility for her. Someone still needs to follow up. Accountability isn’t policing. It's about clarity and consequences. Somebody needs to name the owner, outline the deliverables, and post deadlines with why the timing matters. Sometimes our job is reminding someone about a deadline. Sometimes it's noticing the catering order has the wrong date before the event. These tasks aren’t glamorous, but they're often the difference between a project that feels effortless and one that creates unnecessary stress. Communication still matters. We believe the audience's needs should guide every communication decision. Brevity is intentional. Clear, timely information helps people move with confidence while reducing confusion and unnecessary work for everyone involved. On one project, we created a detailed FAQ before registration opened. The client's inbox stayed quieter than expected because participants could easily find the answers they needed before reaching out. Good ideas still need structure. Structure is what turns possibilities into impact. After 25 years, we’ve learned that even the strongest ideas need structure, ownership, and clarity to thrive. We've learned that a good roadmap gives everyone confidence. It helps new team members jump in without missing context, reminds people why decisions were made, and keeps momentum going when projects stretch over months or even years. Relationships still matter. Every project begins and ends with people. We lead with curiosity, listen carefully, and communicate with intention because trust fuels momentum. It's rewarding to watch people move from uncertainty to alignment, from individual effort and good intentions to meaningful progress. We welcome new clients and appreciate those who continue to partner with us over the years. We have clients who hired us in 2018 and again in 2026 and a few times in between. We have clients who hired us in 2008 and continue to bring us into a wide variety of projects to this day. The tools will continue to change. New challenges will emerge. But we believe the fundamentals will remain the same: people need clarity, projects need structure, and relationships deserve care. Because in the end, projects aren't remembered for their plans—they're remembered for the difference they make. Thank you to everyone who has trusted us to be part of your story. Cheers to the conversations, collaborations, and good ideas still waiting to become finished work! Want to help us celebrate this milestone anniversary? Congratulations on joining the "25 Years" Club! It is a huge milestone! I'm at 28! I love the perspectives you've shared here -- and I share them as well. This one, in particular, struck me -- "We believe the audience's needs should guide every communication decision." So many great memories of the Fargo and Bismarck Women's Health Conferences. I miss working with you two. Keep up the good work!
